Working with highly fragile patients
Short description of the event topic: Theory, case demonstration, exercise sequences for the participants, supervision.

Daily routine:
1) Therapy presentation
2) Theory-based case presentation
3) "skill building" training for the participants
4) Case supervision with the participants

Due to the corona situation, the training will take place via ZOOM, with transfer to a large screen at the conference location Punkt.Null in Bern. This way the exchange between colleagues remains possible.

Co-chair of the ISTDP Training Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry where he has been on the faculty since 1988. He was previously chair of the Supervision Training Program and the Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry as well as chair of their Faculty Clinical Council.

Treating Severe Fragile Patients in IS-TDP
Course content
Dr. Allan Abbass will review the metapsychology of the unconscious and technical details of Davanloo’s Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy as relates to patients with fragile character structure. Based on 40 years of video tape research the ISTDP treatment format has been adapted with specific technical modifications to first build psychic integration and structural capacity, leading to the development of healing forces of the unconscious therapeutic alliance leading to first breakthroughs and repeated unlocking of the unconscious. This workshop will examine with detail videotaped from actual treatment sessions with his patients to demonstrate aspects of these treatment phases
